About the Concert

The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre invites the connoisseurs to the concert entitled “Orchestra Gold”. Here, the word “Gold” refers to a group of brass instruments, all of which are made of metal with a golden or silver hue. A brilliant ensemble in every sense of the word, consisting of trombones, horns, trumpets, a tuba and a unique, rare, young instrument, the flugelhorn (improved by Adolphe Sax), will perform the fiery music by Georges Bizet, George Gershwin, Ástor Piazzolla and others. The structure of the concert programme is such that it shows the succession of the composers of the 19th and 20th centuries desiring to reflect the unique rhythms and melodies of Spanish, Argentine and African-American cultures. The main musical genres of the turn of the century, such as tango and ragtime, have gained popularity in music for brass ensembles and variety orchestras which sounded throughout Europe, America and Russia.
