Opera Programme of the VI International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok

The star opera cast will appear in some repertoire shows on the Primorsky Stage at the Mariinsky Festival. The bill also includes gala and symphonic concerts in which famous singers will take part.

On July 30 the opera program will be opened with Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II, which was staged by Alexei Stepanyuk and premiered at the Primorsky Stage in spring this year. The breathtaking operetta gorgeously designed by Vyacheslav Okunev will be represented by soloists of the Primorsky Stage including Alexei Smirnov, Alena Diyanova, Maria Suzdaltseva, Vyacheslav Vasilyev, Roman Krukovich, and Tatiana Makarchuk.

On August 1 the audience is expected to hear singers noted throughout the world in Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata. The title role of Violetta Valèry will be sung by Albina Shagimuratova, a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera and Covent Garden who was given the title of an Honored Artist of Russia. Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar, a Grand Prix winner at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition who was awarded the Song Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, will first appear as Giorgio Germont. The part of Alfredo will be sung by Alexei Kostyuk, a soloist of the Primorsky Stage.

Giacomo Puccini’s colorful masterpiece Turandot staged by Charles Roubaud will be shown on August 5. The Unknown Prince (Calaf) will be represented by Najmiddin Mavlyanov, a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre who received the 2021 Golden Mask award. His companions on the stage will be Mlada Khudoley as Princess Turandot, who is a leading soprano of the Mariinsky Theatre, and soloists of the Primorsky Stage such as Alina Mikhailik as Liù and Yevgeny Plekhanov as Timur.

On August 6 Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin will feature Gamid Abdulov as Lensky, who became a fellow of the Atkins Young Artist Program at the Mariinsky Theatre, and singers of the Primorsky Stage including Liliya Kadnikova as Tatyana, Laura Bustamante as Olga and Alexei Bublik as Onegin.

On August 8 the final event at the VI International Mariinsky Far East Festival will be held, namely: Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades classically staged by Yuri Temirkanov. The primary roles will be sung by Najmiddin Mavlyanov as Herman, Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar as Yeletsky, Yulia Matochkina, a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre and a prizewinner at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, as Polina and soloists of the Primorsky Stage including Elena Razgulyaeva as Liza, Marat Mukhametzyanov as Tomsky and Irina Kolodyazhnaya as the Countess.

The gala concert of opera soloist, in which opera stars are to take part, will be held in the Great Hall on August 4. On July 31 Albina Shagimuratova will appear on the symphonic concert “Mozart – Schubert”. Such guest singers as Mlada Khudoley, Yulia Matochkina, Gamid Abdulov will be solo in the great Ninth Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven on August 7.

All events included in the opera program will be conducted by Pavel Smelkov.
