From August 14 to August 16, 2020 the ballet A Thousand and One Nights to music by Fikret Amirov will be premiered at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre to open the V International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok.
The ballet is choreographed by Eldar Aliev, a Ballet Master in Chief of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. “The music for A Thousand and One Nights was written by Fikret Amirov, an eminent Azerbaijan composer. Full of amazing beauty, the music is freely ornamented with dance movements, choreographically easy and picturesque. The choreographic solution is generally neoclassical with the scenic plastique reflecting the colorific charms of Oriental dances. Today the Mariinsky Ballet of the Primorsky Stage numbers over 90 dancers and is a company with whom a big work could be done,” – Eldar Aliev said.
The sets and costumes are designed by Pyotr Okunev, a Chief Designer of the Primorsky Stage. “In this ballet we would like to show the fantastically charming Orient. The performances will be classical but contemporary, not moth-eaten. The picturesque scenes will be combined with video projections. The sets for these performances were mainly made in Saint Petersburg, in the oldest scenery shops of the Mariinsky Theatre, and partially – for the first time in the Primorsky Stage history – here in Vladivostok where Saint Petersburg painters came to teach our specialists and work in collaboration with them,” – Pyotr Okunev said.
Tickets are available at the Playbill or in any booking office of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre from July 29, 2020.
