How the opera The Gambler is created

At Valery Gergiev’s invitation, the production of The Gambler was staged at the Mariinsky Theatre by the internationally renowned stage director, the People’s Artist of Russia and Georgia Temur Chkheidze, who managed to find for it a stylistically and dramaturgically correct solution, matching the vigorous tempo-rhythm of Prokofiev’s music.

The production has been brought over to the Primorsky Stage from the Mariinsky Theatre under direction of the People’s Artist of Russia Yuri Laptev. The recording of The Gambler released under the Mariinsky Label won the most significant international award in the world of classical music – International Classical Music Awards and was included into the short-list of The British International Opera Awards, known “ the Opera Oscar” (in the nomination of The Best DVD).

The Far East audience is to meet the stellar cast on 9 and 12 February, when leading parts will be performed by the masters of the operatic stage, that were engaged in the recording of the performance. The People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Galouzine is considered to be the best performer of the part of Alexei in history. He will sing alongside the magnificent People’s Artist of Russia Larisa Diadkova as Babulenka (Granny), who will appear in all four performances. The part of the General will be performed by the People’s Artist of Russia Gennady Bezzubenkov and the part of Marquis – by the double Grammy Award recipient the Honouzed Artist of Russia Nikolai Gassiev. The numerous national and international awards winner Nataliya Tymchenko will appear on stage as Pauline.
