ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The legendary trickster of Eastern civilization Hodja Nasreddin inspired the creative team to experiment – the first ever puppet production at the Theater of Nations.

The faithful helper of the famous philosopher and dodger, a donkey, tells about his master’s escapades. The adventure story will captivate both children and adults. The puppets speak with the recognizable voices of popular actors: Evgeny Mironov, Konstantin Khabensky, Viktor Verzhbitsky, Igor Zolotovitsky, Elizaveta Boyarskaya and Inga Oboldina. The performance was created in the aesthetics of old black-and-white cinematography, but seems to be painted with colors, vibes, and wisdom of the East. The streets of a medieval Asian city, a colorful bazaar, and the Emir's palace appear on stage. Some take the stories about Hodja Nasreddin as similitudes, some as fairy tales. In any case, these stories are both surprising and causing reflections about life, freedom, and love. Hodja Nasreddin is the winner of the Golden Mask Award (2022) in nomination “The best puppet show”.
