ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

“Defeated and occupied France… In this production striking and elaborate sets were abandoned in favour of simple theatrical means which, one way or another, turn the stage into a confined space inhabited not just by the characters of Boule de Suif. This space is also home for images which arise in this inventively rich version, images born in the viewer’s mind thanks to the brilliant physical performance by the cast. They keep silent, playing cards, dancing and forming plastic compositions which evoke the great masterpieces of the Renaissance. The actors are keenly sarcastic and magnificent, keeping the audience permanently impressed and involved. Even the infrequent and very concise lines of text are acted out with complete determination. All participants in this incredible piece of teamwork are absolutely committed to their roles”.
