Renata Shakirova to Perform on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in April

In the second half of the month, the Primorsky Stage will delight the ballet connoisseurs with classical and original productions with an amazing cast of soloists. It is noteworthy that two performances will be graced by Renata Shakirova, the favorite of the public and the first soloist of the Mariinsky Ballet. For the first time, the Petersburg ballerina will appear on the Primorsky Stage as Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, and will also perform the main female part in Le Corsaire.

On April 20, 2023 at 19:00, the audience will enjoy a love story told through the perfect harmony of classical dance in Swan Lake ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. This ballet piece is the embodiment of the 19th century academic ballet traditions with an airy corps de ballet in white tutus, 32 fouetté and the famous dance of the little swans. Since its premiere in 1895, this performance has been recognized as the lyrical pinnacle of Russian ballet theatre. Its main female part is considered unique, since its choreography has been shared simultaneously between two masters, Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. The multifaceted Odette-Odile will be embodied by Renata Shakirova (St. Petersburg) in April. The first soloist of the Mariinsky Ballet Yevgeny Konovalov will perform the part of her romantic and courageous Prince Siegfried.

On April 22, 2023 at 14:00 and 19:00, the Primorsky Stage is to become an arena of sea adventures and a love story with Le Corsaire ballet by Adolphe Adam. This colorful ballet contains all the components required to impress the theatrical audience: pirates and shipwrecks, an oriental harem and a slave market with abducted beauties. And above this entire exotic splendor, there reigns a love story that is able to withstand any test. In the evening performance on the Primorsky Stage, the image of the gentle and meek Medora will also be embodied by the leading soloist of the Mariinsky Ballet Renata Shakirova. Her stage partners will be the soloists of the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

The April playbill has something more to offer to both the sophisticated and the beginner ballet addicts: A Thousand and One Nights by Fikret Amirov (April 15 and 29, 2023), La Bayadère (April 27, 2023) and Don Quixote (May 1, 2023) by Ludwig Minkus.
