The concert is to be given for the Slavic Written Language and Culture Day at the Primorsky Stage

On May 24 the concert will take place for the Slavic Written Language and Culture Day in the Great Hall of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Russian classics will sound during the first part of the concert. The audience will be able to hear masterpieces by Mikhail Glinka, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Tenor Ilya Astafurov and basso Sergei Sevastyanov, soloists of the Primorsky Stage, will sing the cantata The Song of Oleg the Wise by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The Symphony Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will be under the baton of Pavel Smelkov, a Principal Conductor.

The second part of the concert will open with an appearance of the Academic Choir of the Far Eastern Federal University, conducted by Elena Petukhova, an Honored Cultural Worker of Russia. Soviet authors’ songs will come next. They will be sung by the Massed Children’s Choir of Vladivostok, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Trubin-Leonov. The second-part program is to include compositions by Nikolay Kedrov Sr., Georgy Sviridov, Aleksandra Pakhmutova, Georgy Struve, Yevgeny Krylatov, Veniamin Basner, Isaak Dunayevsky, and many more.

The Massed Children’s Choir of Vladivostok comprised the Academic Choir of the Far Eastern Federal University, the Exemplary Choir “Scarlet Sails” of the S.Prokofiev Children’s Art School No. 1, the Junior School Choir of the Primorsky Regional College of Arts, a Choir of the Exemplary Chorus Studio “Kammerton”, a Choir of the Children’s Music School No. 2, the Choir “Assol” of the Children’s Art School No. 3, the Vocal Ensemble “Assol” of the Vladivostok City Children’s Activity Center, the Exemplary Choir “Rainbow” of the Children’s Art School No. 6, a Choir of the Children’s Art School No. 5, the Exemplary Choir “Boys” of the Children’s Art School No. 6, and the Choir “Little Silver Notes” of the Children’s Art School No. 4.

The Slavic Written Language and Culture Day is annually celebrated in Russia. The celebration is arranged to coincide with the Feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius Brothers, Equal-to-the-Apostles, who created the Cyrillic alphabet and thereby marked the beginning of the Slavic written language. Since 2017, at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, the annual gala concert has been given by the best children and adults’ choirs accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra. The main purpose of the concert is popularizing Russian culture through the art of choral singing.
