The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre announces its October repertoire

The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre represents its eventful October programme.

In October the audience is expected to see some opera premieres for young hearers. Under the auspices of the programme “The Mariinsky to Children”, Vladivostok spectators will first be given an opportunity to enjoy Sergei Banevich’s operas Murych the Cat (October 24) and Scenes from the Life of Nikolenka Irtenev (October 30) and Leonid Klinichev’s opera The Little Prince on October 30 and October 31. The operas were staged by Alexei Stepanyuk and will be shown in the Chamber Hall of the Primorsky Stage.

On October 17 Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot, an opera premiere of the previous season, will be performed. The primary part will be sung by Elena Razgulyaeva, a soloist of the Primorsky Stage who was given the title of an Honored Artist of Russia. The baton will be held by Pavel Smelkov.

On October 23 at 14.00 and 19.00 the brilliant costume operetta Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II, which was gorgeously staged by Alexei Stepanyuk, will be performed. The operetta will be conducted by Waleriy Trubin-Leonoff.

The October bill includes a wide range of family shows. Among them there are works which are sung in Russian and therefore ideal for the first acquaintance with the operatic genre, such as the jocular opera The Love for Three Oranges by Sergei Prokofiev on October 21, the mysterious one Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on October 27 and the two ones based on Pushkin’s well-known plots, namely: The Tale of Tsar Saltan by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov on October 31 and Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky on October 29.

The audience will also be able to see such popular operas as Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, which was staged by Irkin Gabitov in a mysterious style, on October 15 and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, which was originally interpreted to be staged by Vyacheslav Starodubtsev, on October 10.

This fall the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage will represent some pearls of the classic repertoire. Adolphe Adam’s fantastic Giselle (October 9) and adventure Le Corsaire (October 16) will be performed at 14.00 and 19.00. Spectators will newly enjoy the three great ballets by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, namely: The Sleeping Beauty on October 22 and 24, Swan Lake on October 28 and The Nutcracker on October 30 at 14.00 and 19.00. On the ballet bill there are George Balanchine’s neoclassic one-act masterpieces Scotch Symphony, Apollo and Serenade on October 14.
