Artistic Director of the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is Given the Title of Honored Artistic Creator of Russia

On April 6, 2021 Eldar Aliev, Artistic Director of the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, was given the title of Honored Artistic Creator of Russia. The Presidential Decree says that the honorary title is awarded to Eldar Aliev “for his considerable contribution to the development of culture and art and creation of highly artistic concert programs, which have been widely recognized by the public and the professional community, and his great merits for educating and training creative professionals”.

Graduated from the Baku College of Choreography, Eldar Aliev was a leading soloist at the Kirov (Mariinsky) Theatre for over 10 years. After retiring as a ballet dancer, he became an Artistic Director of Ballet Internationale (Indianapolis Ballet Theater) (1992-2005). Later he worked as a guest consultant, a teacher, a ballet master and a choreographer with leading companies and ballet academies in Europe, Asia and America.

Since 2015 Eldar Aliev has been appointed as a Ballet Master in Chief of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The Primorsky Stage repertoire includes the ballets The Nutcracker, Le Corsaire and L’Oiseau de feu choreographed by Eldar Aliev. He has also revised the classic version of The Sleeping Beauty.

The Primorsky Stage opened its eighth season with the premiere of A Thousand and One Nights ballet choreographed by Eldar Aliev. The ballet was acclaimed by Saint Petersburg ballet reviewers. In January 2021 it was performed by the Primorsky Stage Company at the Mariinsky Theatre and scored a great success in Saint Petersburg. On May 13, 2021 Eldar Aliev’s production of A Thousand and One Nights will open the 34th International Nureyev Classic Ballet Festival in Kazan.
