Concerts by the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under the baton of Valery Gergiev on August 6 and 9, featuring musicians from Sweden and Japan will become the culmination of the symphonic programme of the Mariinsky Festival.
For the first time Vladivostok will hear performances of the young violin virtuoso Daniel Lozakovitj (Sweden) and the renowned blind pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii (Japan). The concerts programme includes masterpieces by Russian and foreign composers.
The violin wunderkind from Sweden Daniel Lozakovitj started to play the violin at the age of six and three years later he was playing with celebrated symphony orchestras. Today, the musician has an exclusive contract with the Deutsche Grammоphon, engagements with leading international ensembles and a set of prestigious awards. His solo in the First Violin Concerto by Max Bruch on August 6 at 12:00 is going to be a real present to melomanes. In the second part of the concert dedicated to the 135th anniversary since Igor Stravinsky’s birth the combined symphony orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre and the Primorsky Stage conducted by Valery Gergiev will play the composer’s great ballet score Le Sacre du printemps. The events schedule of the Festival’s last week includes a concert featuring the Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii (August 9, 19:00).
“Nobuyuki Tsujii is a unique phenomenon in the world culture, a blind musician of great talent. He has never performed in Vladivostok, I dreamed about inviting him to the First Festival, and at last we’ve made it. I’m looking forward to seeing him and hope he comes here again and again.” said Valery Gergiev at the press-conference.
Nobuyuki Tsujii was born blind due to a congenital eye disorder and was gifted with phenomenal musical talents. The musician gained wide recognition after his triumph at the XIII International Van Cliburn Competition in 2009. Now Nobuyuki Tsujii tours the world, performing with celebrated orchestras and conductors, CDs with his records break sales records and crowds of his fans are dying to get to his concerts.
At the Primorsky Stage the musician will play solo in one of the most beloved and frequently performed work of classical repertoire — the grandiose Fifth Piano Concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The highlight of the evening is the premiere of an opera by another anniversary celebrant — Rodion Shchedrin. His Enchanted Wanderer based on Nikolay Leskov’s novel of the same name will be presented in concert performance. The opera will be performed by the Mariinsky Theatre soloists, international award-winners Stanislav Leontiev, Yekaterina Sergeyeva, Oleg Sychev and the Mariinsky Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev.
