ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Russian Ballet Masterpieces to the 50th anniversary of its forerunner, the famous Choreographic Miniatures company, which its founder, the legendary choreographer Leonid Yakobson, stepped up to run half a century ago.

Yacobson’s creative heritage is diverse and priceless, but his Choreographic Miniatures performance (1958) became a truly life-changing work. It was the Miniatures that gave the name to the first theatre where Yacobson could freely realize his ideas, in many respects defining the genre of the future vast repertoire, which the maitre de ballet «composed» within an unprecedentedly short time. Carefully restored not so long ago, these works still form the core of the theatre’s playbill.

Moving ahead of his time, Yacobson dreamed of a new plastic language: «A revolution must take place in choreography. The entire universal movement development system leading to the profession of a ballet dancer should remain from the classical dance school. But the style in which this system is enclosed must be rejected. Then a new art will be born.»

The revived show premiered on: November 30, 2018
