About the Concert

A Portrait of a Singer in an Interior, a meeting series initiated in the Mariinsky Theatre and transferred to the Primorsky Stage, will continue pleasing Vladivostok music lovers in the new season. The originator of the idea is a very experienced and internationally acclaimed accompanist Irina Soboleva, Honored Artists of Russia. Once she suggested organizing a special concert in a format of a talk which would give the audience an opportunity to better get to know artistic work of the best singers of the opera company. At the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre this project is managed by the artistic director of the opera company, People’s Artist of Russia Larisa Diadkova.

About the performers

On the 18th of September there will be the first meeting in this season. Alexei Kostyuk, a leading tenor of the Primorsky Stage, a laureate of the international competition, will be a hero of this meeting.

Alexei Kostyuk was born in Leningrad (St Petersburg today). He graduated from the Vocal Department of the St Petersburg Conservatory. His professor was Elena Oparina. Then he continued his training at the Academy of Young Opera Singers f the Mariinsky Theatre with renowned Mariinsky tenor, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Alexei Steblyanko. Over the course of his training Alexei Kostyuk gained a significant experience performing at different opera theatres and concert halls of St. Petersburg.

The artistic path of Alexei Kostyuk has been closely connected with the Primorsky Stage since its foundation. In October of 2013 he sang at the grand opening of the theatre. The audience truly enjoyed his heartfelt performance of the part of Lensky in Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Today his extensive repertoire includes leading tenor parts of Russian and foreign composers, vocal chamber music of different times and styles. Having won true love and recognition of the audience, Alexei Kostyuk is the singer that the audience comes to the theatre for. His name on the playbill is a guarantee of a high artistic level of the performance. At the concert in the Chamber Hall the audience will have an opportunity to enjoy an exquisite vocal programme and to better get acquainted with the soloist learning about his work behind the curtain which remains invisible for the audience.
