About the Concert

The Heilongjiang Symphony Orchestra is a well-known in North China professional ensemble with a rich history. It’s an orchestra with deep roots, distinguished by bright individuality and energy. Structurally, the Orchestra consists of two parts: 74 permanent members and 20 contract musicians. The orchestra members are best graduates of local and international major arts institutions.
Having started as a small ensemble of a provincial theatre, over its more than a forty-year history the Heilongjiang Symphony Orchestra has become a major professional orchestra with an extensive repertoire. Following the Chinese proverb, the ensemble has turned from a cocoon into a butterfly.
For many years the orchestra has been playing a great number of musical pieces belonging to different cultures and countries, various styles and genres, including celebrated symphonies by Beethoven (# 3 The Eroica, № 5, № 9) and Tchaikovsky (№ 4 and № 5), J.Strauss’ Overture to The Bat and The Blue Danube Waltz, Sibelius’ Symphony № 2, Dvořák’s Symphony № 9, Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique; Mendelssohn’s Symphony № 4 Italian and others. The Orchestra repertoire also features Chinese classical pieces: ballets The Red Detachment of Women and The White-Haired Girl, song I Man, The Yellow River (Huang He) Piano Concerto, the Liang-Zhu Violin Concerto.
