On October 23 and 24, 2024, Denis Matsuev Presents: Generations Dialogue Festival is to be held for the first time at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre with support from the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. Internationally renowned soloists and younger representatives of the Russian performing school will appear on the same stage.
A big Gala concert will be given on October 23, 2024. Such young virtuosos as violinist Stefaniya Pospekhina, Second Prize winner at the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians and Grand Prix winner at the I International Competition for Young Musicians “Symphony of Yamal”, and pianist Vladimir Karyakin, prizewinner at the IV International Grand Piano Competition for Young Pianists, will appear in Part I. Such distinguished musicians as Yekaterina Mochalova (domra) and Borislav Strulyov (cello) will also perform. The programme includes compositions by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Pablo de Sarasate, Alexander Alyabyev and Henri Vieuxtemps. Part II will include Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by maestro Denis Matsuev.
On October 24, 2024, the Festival will go on, and the public will be able to enjoy the programme “From Classical to Jazz” including improvisations on classical and jazz themes, which will be performed by such eminent musicians as Denis Matsuev (piano), Andrei Ivanov (double bass), Alexander Zinger (drums), Yekaterina Mochalova (domra), and Borislav Strulyov (cello). Sofya Turina, winner at the XVII International Nutcracker Television Contest for Young Musicians, winner at Saxotone Moscow International Saxophone&Clarinet Competition, and Grand Prix winner at “The Triumph of Jazz” Competition, will be their companion on the stage.
The final concert will be given at the Primorsky Branch of the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts on October 24, 2024. Then the generations dialogue will be taken up by Kirill Rogovoy, Varvara Zarudneva and Vladimir Karyakin, prizewinners at the International Grand Piano Competition for Young Pianists, and Stefaniya Pospekhina (violin), Grand Prix winner at the I International Competition for Young Musicians “Symphony of Yamal”. The public will be able to enjoy compositions by Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Dmitri Shostakovich, Maurice Ravel, and Jean-Philippe Rameau.
“I am very glad that brilliant musicians and very young performers who are, however, known well by now appear with me on the stage. Our mission is to help the new generation and their phenomenal talents,” said the Artistic Director of the Festival, Denis Matsuev.
Over the years, virtuoso pianist Denis Matsuev, People’s Artist of Russia and recipient of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, has taken an active part in public activities to support young gifted performers. He is the President of the Charitable Foundation New Names, and the Artistic Director of the International Grand Piano Competition for Young Pianists. He is a jury member at a series of youth competitions. The new creative project Denis Matsuev Presents: Generations Dialogue continues the tradition; since 2022 it has banded musicians of different generations, allowing young talents to appear with skilled masters on the same stage.
