Large-scale concert programs, cozy vocal evenings and other musical gifts are in store for the audiences of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in November, December and January.
The Theatre’s company is planning a loud closing of the main symphonic cycle of the year dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. On November 29, 2023, the Great Hall will be hosting a masterpiece of Russian sacred music, the All-Night Vigil performed by the Chorus of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre under the direction of the Theatre’s Principal Chorus Master Larisa Shveikovskaya. On December 9, 2023, at the finale of the cycle, Rachmaninoff’s music lovers will enjoy The Miserly Knight for the first time on the Primorsky Stage. This one-act opera is rarely heard not only on the opera stage, but also in concert performance. In Part II of the evening, the most popular symphony in the composer’s legacy will be performed, Symphony No. 2. The Theatre’s Principal Conductor Pavel Smelkov will take the baton of the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage.
Chamber music connoisseurs should not miss unique concerts with sand animation. On November 12, 2023, the audiences will be presented with the music by Mozart and Pergolesi in the Stabat mater program. Opera singers Alisa Fedorenko and Laura Bustamante will perform as soloists. On December 24, 2023 and January 27, 2024, the concert Le quattro stagioni. Vivaldi. will be on the playbill. This cycle, much loved by the audiences, is performed with unfailing regularity at many concert venues. However, it has the format of a real theatrical performance only on the Primorsky Stage.
Before the New Year and during the holidays, the soloists of the opera company and of the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will present a theatrical concert program New Year Confetti. The program includes popular classical and pop music pieces implying the atmosphere of miracle and putting the audiences in a festive mood. The concerts will take place in the Chamber Hall on December 28, 29, 30 and 31, 2023, as well as on January 2, 3, 4 and 5, 2024.
In addition, a concert dedicated to the birthday of Alexander Pushkin is planned at the end of January; its program will be announced separately.
