Great operas at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in January

During January the Vladivostok audience will be able to see the best world operas in which guest singer will take part and the Primorsky Stage soloists will make their important debuts.

The heroic tenor Mikhail Agafonov, a soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, will first sing in two performances at the Primorsky Stage. On January 21 and January 23 he will appear as Mario Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca and as Don Carlo in Verdi’s Don Carlo respectively.

On January 22 Anatoly Badayev will debut as Sarastro, a powerful wizard and the High Priest at the Temple of Love and Wisdom, in Mozart’s fairy opera Die Zauberflöte.

On January 27 the dramatic soprano Elena Razgulyaeva, an Honored Artist of Russia, will first appear as Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth, an opera based on Shakespeare’s bloody drama. Tenor Ilya Astafurov will debut as Malcolm in it.

Russian music can be heard in the dramatic opera The Tsar’s Bride by Rimsky-Korsakov on January 28 and in the facetious opera The Love for Three Oranges by Prokofiev on January 20.

This month will end in the premiere of Leoncavallo’s masterpiece Pagliacci staged by Marat Gatsalov, a famous theatre director. On January 30 the principal parts will be sung by Mergen Sandanov, Alexei Bublik and Liliya Kadnikova.
