The VI International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok, will open with ballet premieres

The VI International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok, will traditionally open with ballet premieres.

On July 24 and July 25, 2021 Boris Asafiev’s The Fountain of Bakhchisarai will be first performed at the Primorsky Stage. Based on Alexander Pushkin’s poem and wonderfully choreographed by Rostislav Zakharov, this colorful production is a calling card of Soviet dramatic ballet. In 2017 The Fountain of Bakhchisarai was performed at the Mariinsky Theatre for the thousandth time.

The Fountain of Bakhchisarai will be premiered by the Mariinsky Ballet at the Primorsky Stage. The story of lost love and acute jealousy within the Khan’s harem will be translated into dance by Danila Korsuntsev, Anastasia Lukina, Yekaterina Chebykina, Alexei Timofeyev, Yevgeny Konovalov, Tatiana Tkachenko, Erwin Zagidullin and other soloists.

On July 27 and July 28, 2021 Herman Løvenskiold’s romantic ballet La Sylphide with 1836 choreography by August Bournonville in a revised version by Elsa-Marianne von Rosen will be also premiered. This ballet with an unusual past became a romantic ballet manifest in 1822 and later disappeared from and then returned to the stage. Now La Sylphide is a part of the repertoires of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and sometimes on the playbills of foreign theatres.

The primary roles in La Sylphide will be performed by such soloists of the Mariinsky Ballet as Anastasia Lukina, Elena Yevseyeva, Yevgeny Konovalov, Yekaterina Petrova, Elena Bazhenova, Alexei Kuzmin.

The both premieres will be conducted by Anton Torbeev.
