Opera gala on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

On March 8, a gala concert with the participation of opera soloists will be held in the Great Hall of the Primorsky Stage. The artists will treat the public to arias and duets from various Russian operas.

As envisioned by the Principal Conductor, the core idea of this evening is not only to compliment the ladies, but also to reveal the intrigue and to hint what operas will soon be shown to the Primorsky audience. “The program of the gala concert to be held on March 8 was compiled for a reason. It will contain fragments of operas to be shown to the Primorsky audience in the 2020/21 season. Timed to coincide with the International Women’s Day, it is not a mere selection of entertainment pieces, but a series of duets and arias that reveal a wide palette of feelings and emotions seething around loving and beloved women: from romantically tragic to magically enthusiastic”, said Pavel Smelkov, Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage.

Three operas by the great Russian composers: Mazeppa by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Boris Godunov by Modest Mussorgsky and Ruslan and Lyudmila by Mikhail Glinka are united by the fact that they are based on the works by the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, and each one has prominent female figures. The concert will introduce the main characters to the audience. During the festive night, the audience will hear the most beautiful arias and duets from these operas, and overtures. The soloists of the Mariinsky Opera of the Primorsky Stage, the choir and orchestra under the direction of the Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage Pavel Smelkov will be on the stage.
