Mariinsky Stars on the Primorsky Stage

Opera and ballet stars of the Saint Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre will appear on the Primorsky Stage in March. Vladivostok spectators anticipate pleasure from the great cast of The Queen of Spades opera, Swan Lake ballet, and the celebrated premiere of War and Peace opera. Besides, bright voices of some debutantes will be heard in operas by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Giuseppe Verdi.

Avgust Amonov, a Mariinsky soloist and one of the best performers of the part of Herman, is arriving at Vladivostok to appear on the stage in The Queen of Spades on March 6. The role of the Countess will be performed by Larisa Diadkova, a distinguished mezzo-soprano awarded the title of People’s Artist of Russia. Elena Razgulyaeva, Vyacheslav Vasilyev and Dmitry Nelasov will become their companions on the stage that night. The orchestra will be under the baton of Pavel Smelkov, Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok.

On March 7 Maria Iliushkina and Nikita Korneyev, two young brightest soloists of the Mariinsky Ballet in Saint Petersburg, will dance the leading parts of Odetta-Odile and Siegfried in Swan Lake with the orchestra conducted by Anton Torbeev.

The main event on the Primorsky Stage in March is to be the Far East premiere of Sergei Prokofiev’s War and Peace after the novel of the same name by Lev Tolstoy on March 20-22. The opera is staged by Kristina Larina; the scenes are designed by Pyotr Okunev; the costumes are designed by Tatiana Noginova after the 2000 production by Andrei Konchalovsky. The leading roles will be sung by soloists of the Saint Petersburg Mariinsky Opera and the Mariinsky Opera of the Primorsky Stage. Irina Soboleva, Honored Artist of Russia, is a Concert Mistress. The baton will be held by Pavel Smelkov, Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok.

Besides, some bright debuts will be made in The Tsar’s Bride and Aida operas on the Primorsky Stage in March. On March 4 Olga Zharikova, a soloist of the Mariinsky Opera of the Primorsky Stage, will first sing the part of Marfa in The Tsar’s Bride. On March 11 Marat Mukhametzyanov will first appear as Amonasro in Aida.

Among the significant events on the Primorsky Stage there are the fourth premiere of the one-act ballets Daphnis et Chloé by Maurice Ravel and Visions fugitives by Sergei Prokofiev in the Great Hall on March 12. The ballets are choreographed by Dmitry Pimonov; all sets and costumes are designed by Stas Lopatkin. Daphnis et Chloé will be accompanied by the orchestra under Anton Torbeev’s baton.
