On October 23, 2020 the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlo was for the second time performed with the great éclat at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The opera was staged by Yuri Aleksandrov, a winner of the Golden Mask and Golden Soffito prizes who was awarded the title of the People’s Artist of Russia. The premiere of Don Carlo featuring some leading soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre, Saint Petersburg was first performed at the V International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok in August. Yesterday the primary parts were sung by leading soloists of the Primorsky Stage such as Mergen Sandanov, Vyacheslav Vasiliev, Elena Razgulyaeva, Sergey Pleshivtsev, Laura Bustamante and Yevgeny Plekhanov. The Symphony orchestra was under the baton of Pavel Smelkov, the Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage. Opera goers will be able to enjoy the wonderful show again on October 25, 2020.
