Primorsky Stage Ballet finishes up touring in Saint Petersburg

The Primorsky Stage ballet artists appeared on the stage of the Saint Petersburg Marrinsky Theatre, traditionally touring their shows from January 14 to January 23. For five years the Primorsky Stage dancers have performed their versions of popular ballets at the close of the January holiday season in Saint Petersburg and have been highly acclaimed by the Saint Petersburg public.

In 2020 the ballet company toured the classic ballets The Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire and Giselle. The ballets were performed on the Historic Stage and the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Upon return to Vladivostok, the ballet artists will resume their work on the one-act ballets Daphnis et Chloé by Maurice Ravel and Visions fugitives by Sergei Prokofiev. These ballets are created specially for the Primorsky Stage by Dmitry Pimonov as a production choreographer and Stas Lopatkin as a set and costume designer and to be premiered on February 14, February 15, February 28, and March 12.

The 20th century choreography will be also represented by George Balanchine’s one-act ballets on February 19, the family ballet The Little Humpbacked Horse choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky on March 1 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the ballets Bambi and In the Jungle choreographed by Anton Pimonov on February 1 at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Spectators of various ages will be pleased to see the fairy ballets The Nutcracker on February 23 and March 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and The Firebird on February 26; the both ballets were choreographed by Eldar Aliev, a head ballet master of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Some classic ballets are also billed. The most Spanish ballet Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus staged by Alexander Gorsky will be premiered at the beginning of the 2019/20 season on February 6, February 8, March 25, and March 26. Giselle a romantic ballet by Adolphe Adan that has been a success in Saint Petersburg will be performed on January 30. Devotees of Tchaikovsky’s famous ballets Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty will see them early in the spring on March 7 and March 14 respectively.
