Stars of the Mariinsky Theatre will Present the Premiere of Richard Wagner's Opera Parsifal on the Primorsky Stage

On October 4 and 6, Parsifal, the most grandiose opera mystery by Richard Wagner, will be premiered on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The performance will be presented in the production staged by the British director Tony Palmer, and the main parts will be performed by the leading soloists of the Mariinsky Opera. Christoph Stöcker (Germany) will be at the conductor’s desk.

Parsifal is a grandiose opera mystery by Richard Wagner, the result of his creative religious and philosophical search. When this work appears in the playbill of any theatre in the world, it is always an extraordinary event. In Russia, it could only be seen and heard at the Mariinsky Theatre. Parsifal was first staged in St Petersburg in 1997 by Tony Palmer. In the 2018/19 season, the performance not only returned to the theatre’s repertoire after an eight-year break, but also became the climax of the Mariinsky Festival in Vladivostok, where the opera has never been heard and has not been shown before.

On October 4 and 6, the audience of the Primorsky Stage will get the last unique chance to see the production. The leading Mariinsky Opera singers will act in the performance: Mikhail Vekua (Parsifal), Vadim Kravets (Amfortas, Klingsor), Anna Markarova (Kundry), Yuri Vorobiev (Gurnemanz). Opera soloists of the Primorsky Stage and the combined choir of the Mariinsky Theatre and the Primorsky Stage will sing in the performance. For the first time in Vladivostok, Christoph Stöcker, a musician who regularly takes part in the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, and the conductor of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein theatre in Düsseldorf, will stand at the conductor’s desk.
