On September 4 at 19:00, the Primorsky Stage will present the premiere of the ballet Don Quixote to the music of Ludwig Minkus, in the choreography by Alexander Gorsky, based on Marius Petipa’s production. The show will be a part of the cultural program of the V Eastern Economic Forum, to be presented by the Primorsky Stage ballet company. Pavel Smelkov will be at the conductor’s desk of The Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage.

For the first time, the ballet Don Quixote was shown in Vladivostok in 2018, at the III International Mariinsky Far East Festival. The classical colorful performance in a picturesque artistic design by Alexander Golovin and Konstantin Korovin, a signature piece of the Mariinsky’s ballet company, was a great success with the audience. In the new season, this production will become part of the repertoire of the Primorsky Stage ballet company.

Don Quixote is a vivid specimen of the ballet Spain with its vibrant ensemble dances, castanets, fans, polka-dot skirts, roses, and combs in women’s hairdos. The festive performance captivating with its temperament and virtuosity was staged by Alexander Gorsky in 1900, based on the ballet of Marius Petipa of the same name. For soloists, Don Quixote is not only a standard of virtuosity, but also an ability to plunge into the element of play where even a minor role can blossom into a whole bouquet of humorous colors. As to the audience, the performance with everyday genre scenes, characteristic choreography, and pure classics neighboring as equals, always charms them with its bountiful dancing spirit and an atmosphere of carefree festivity.

As a reminder: the premiere shows of the performance will be on September 4 at 19:00 and September 8 at 17:00.
