Primorsky Stage Continues 2019/20 Season Presenting Repertoire Productions Featuring Theater’s Stars

The 2019/20 season of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theater continues, presenting masterpieces of the world’s musical theater. In the last weeks of summer, the Primorsky Stage audience will see drama operas of European composers and performances from the “gold portfolio” of classical ballet.

August 22 at 19:00 — Rigoletto, Giuseppe Verdi’s iconic opera about the tragic fate of a court jester and his daughter. Roman Krukovich (Duke of Mantua) and Maria Suzdaltseva (Gilda) will sing the major parts. The company’s new soloist Marat Mukhmetzianov will appear as Rigoletto for the first time on the Primorsky Stage. Conductor: Valery Trubin-Leonov.

On August 25 at 17:00, another operatic masterpiece will be presented, Carmen by Georges Bizet featuring Laura Bustamante (Carmen) and Alexei Smirnov (Don Jose). On August 29 at 19:00, Giuseppe Verdi’s seldom performed opera Macbeth after Shakespeare’s tragedy of the same name will be presented on the Primorsky Stage. Vyacheslav Vasiliev (Macbeth) and Alyona Diyanova (Lady Macbeth) will appear in the lead roles. Anton Torbeev will be at the conductor’s desk.

Back from traditional summer tours, the Primorsky Stage’s ballet company will show its excellence again in such classical performances as Adam’s Giselle (August 28, 19:00) and Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty (August 23, 19:00; August 24, 14:00). The theater’s lead soloists Irina Sapozhnikova, Anna Samostrelova, Sergey Umanets, and Kanat Nadyrbek will appear in the key roles. Anton Torbeev will conduct the performances.
