On July 31, 2019 and August 5, 2019 the famous opera Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti will be presented for the first time on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The stage solution of the play has been invented by the Italian team who have also staged several performances on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre (St Petersburg). The head of the team is director Andrea De Rosa.
The main parts will be performed by world-famous performers, leading soloists of the Mariinsky Opera company: Vladislav Sulimsky (Lord Henry Ashton), Yevgeny Akimov (Sir Edgar Ravenswood) and Stanislav Trofimov (Raymond Beidbent) on July 31, 2019 and Sergei Skorokhodov (Sir Edgar Ravenswood), Alexey Markov (Sir Henry Ashton), Stanislav Trofimov (Raymond Baydbent) on August 5, 2019. On July 31 and August 5 the title party will be performed by the winner of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition (2019) Aigul Khismatullina. On both days, the Orchestra of Mariinsky Theatre will be conducted by the main conductor of the Primorsky Stage Pavel Smelkov.
An hour before the start of the performances in the lobby of the 5th floor the guests will be able to visit the “Theatre Foreword” lecture where musicologist, historian and head of the Publishing Office of the Mariinsky Theatre Anna Petrova. Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti is one of the highest achievements of the romantic bel canto. Without any periods of oblivion, this opera regularly appears in posters around the world. Romantic melodrama where emotions completely absorb heroes, vivid characters, mercilessly unwinding intrigue with sudden turns of action and, finally, Donizetti’s delightful tunes where each score is turned into a masterpiece, this is the recipe of Lucia di Lammermoor’s scenic longevity.
