Opera soloist of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre Aigul Khismatullina (coloratura soprano) won the second prize and silver medal of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition. This is the artist’s second major victory in 2019.
Aigul Khismatullina has been a soloist with the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre since April 2016, successfully performing main parts in such operas as Rigoletto and Die Zauberflöte. In 2017, the singer joined the Atkins Young Artist Program in St Petersburg, which brought her engagement with the Mariinsky Theater. In January 2019, she won one of the most prestigious European musical competitions, the 56th Francisco Viсas Singing Contest in Barcelona.
At the International Mariinsky Far Eastern Festival, Vladivostok, Aigul Khismatullina will perform the lead role in Gaetano Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor in the premiere production of Andrea de Rosa (August 5). It was with this party that the artist won the audience at the Mariinsky Theatre last December. “The Primorsky Stage has once again given St Petersburg a rising star, Aigul Khismatullina. Her Lucia has turned out to be very warm and touching”, Nezavisimaya Gazeta noted.
