Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo to Perform on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre for the First Time

The first tour of the Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo in Vladivostok will take place on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre and will begin with the premiere of the Tale About God Of Dragon (Asuka) ballet on January 15, 16 and 17, 2019. The leading dancers of the troupe will present a dramatic love story about a hunter’s son Iwatari and the girl adopted by his parents, Sugaru-otome. The plot of the ballet takes place in the historical period of Asuka and includes elements of folklore and national themes which are reflected not only in choreography and the libretto by Asami Maki, but also in expressive costumes and stage design.

On January 19, 2019, the Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo will give a gala concert. The evening will open with the Grand pas de Fiancées. The passage excluded by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov from their version of The Swan Lake ballet will be presented in the choreography by Jack Carter. The program also includes the Grand pas concert from the Don Quixote ballet (originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, staged by Alexander Gorsky), the neoclassical ballet Constantia (in the choreography by William Dollar), The Variation for Four in the choreography by the Artistic director of the Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo Kyozo Mitani. At the end of the evening, the troupe will present Bolero in the choreography by Peter Breuer.

All performances of the troupe will be accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage, with Anton Torbeev at the conductor’s stand. The tour is dedicated to the Year of Japan in Russia.
