Far Eastern Premiere of Tristan und Isolde opera by Richard Wagner, Staged by Dmitry Chernyakov will Take Place at the III International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Vladivostok

The premiere of Tristan und Isolde opera (August 5, 2018, 05:00 p.m.) will continue to introduce the audience of the Primorsky Stage to Richard Wagner’s heritage. In November 2016, the first concert performance in Vladivostok of his Das Rheingold opera was a great success. At the II International Mariinsky Far East Festival, Ian Judge staged a premiere of Der fliegende Holländer opera.

This year, the audience will enjoy a performance based on the Celtic legend of the adulterous love between Tristan and Iseult (Isolde). In his production, Dmitry Chernyakov, striving for cinematic authenticity and humanizing opera characters, moved the time of action to our days, bringing the suffering of mythical heroes closer to real human passions.

Recognized performers of Wagner’s works will take part in the performance: Mikhail Vekua (Tristan), Elena Popovskaya (Isolde), Mikhail Petrenko (Marke, King of Cornwall), Evgeny Nikitin (Kurwenal), Yulia Matochkina (Brangäne). Valery Gergiev will take place at the conductor’s console of the Mariinsky Orchestra.
