A new project at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre — Valery Gergiev for Children

In March, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre presents a new project: Valery Gergiev for Children, including musical performances using sand animation by music historian Olga Piccolo which are successfully running at the new stage and the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre.

On 4 March at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre the cycle Music Told in Tales of Sand will open with the concert performance Meet the Little Prince for children aged 4-15. It combines the famous parable-story by de Antoine de Saint-Exupéry with the music of French impressionist composers in jazz.

The fairy-tale performances for children and adolescents aged from 3 to 15 will be running during the 2017/18 season at the Chamber Hall of the Theatre at weekends from March to June. The Far East audiences will see Silence Within Silence, or The Hedgehog in the Mist (April 21), The Blue Bird. Fairy-tale Journey. (April 22), The Glass Boy Children’s Album (May 6), Mozart’s Children, or The Meeting with the Cricket (June 2), Cinderella (June 3).

One of the project’s goals is to introduce children and adolescents to the world of classical music and to develop their intellectual and creative talents. The performances from the cycle Music Told in Tales of Sand feature various game elements such as magic journeys and exciting quests. Fragments of classical music are strung on the plot of classical fairy-tales, as well as on the fairy-tales created by the host.
