The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre continues its tradition of New Year’s Eve performances. On December 23, at the House of the Russian Army Officers in Ussuriysk opera soloists and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage conducted by Pavel Smelkov will present a colourful festive concert New Year’s Eve Kaleidoscope.
The evening programme includes popular classical music of various genres which are included in the treasury of the world musical literature: splendorous overtures, Mozart’s arias, sparkling numbers from the operetta Die Fledermaus, gems of Russian and foreign vocal lyricism, Russian and Neapolitan folk songs.
The concert features the Primorsky Stage opera soloists, diploma recipients and winners at international music competitions Alena Diyanova (soprano), Vyacheslav Vasilyev (baritone), Tatiana Makarchuk (mezzo-soprano), Aexei Kostyuk (tenor), Evgeny Plekhanov (bass), Alina Mikhailik (soprano), Roman Krukovich (tenor) and Alexander Gontsa (bariton).
A surprise for listeners will be a world premiere of Pavel Smelkov’s virtuosic Fantasy on a Theme from the opera Don Giovanni (soloist - deputy leader of first violins of the Mariinsky Orchestra Khristian Artamonov). This composition can also be heard at a concert in Vladivostok on December 24.
The Far East audience will for the first time have an opportunity to hear Grand Concert Paraphrase on Themes from Ruslan and Ludmila (soloist — international awards winner, clarinetist Dmitrii Lupachev) and the original Pasticcio Overture.
The Vladivostok audience will also have a chance to hear its favourite compositions — on December 24, the New Year’s Eve Kaleidoscope is also featured in the playbill of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. Today, musicians and soloists will continue their series of performances at the Far East University with a traditional New Year’s Concert.
