The Primorsky Stage autumn repertoire will culminate with the Rachmaninoff Cycle. On November 29 (20:00) and 30 (11:00) the outstanding musicians — renowned Russian pianist Denis Matsuev and the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre conducted by Valery Gergiev will be performing all Sergei Rachmaninoff’s works for piano and orchestra.
Masterpieces by “the last romantic” of Russian music - Sergei Rachmaninoff - occupy a special place in the repertoires of the Mariinsky Theatre and Denis Matsuev, whose interpretations of the concertos are invariably met with a rapturous reception.
Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Symphony Orchestra are connected with Denis Matsuev by a long history of joint concert performances. One impressive result of their collaboration was the Mariinsky Label’s releases, including recordings of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in 2010, as well as Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in 2014. Another Cycle release, which is planned for February 2018, will be recording of famous Concerto No. 2.
