The Primorsky Stage Ballet Company sets off on its first tour in South Korea

In November, the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will for the first time perform in South Korean capital. The performances will take place at the Opera Theatre located in the Seoul Art Center.

From November 9 to 12, Seoul audiences will see four performances of Konstantin Sergeyev’s classic production of P. Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake with choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.

The tour performances will feature the Company’s principal dancers and soloists: Sergei Umanets, Irina Sapozhnikova, Anna Samostrelova, Kanat Nadirbek, as well as the Mariinsky Theatre principal dancers Kimin Kim and Viktoria Tereshkina. The performances of the Primorsky Stage Ballet Company will be accompanied by the Seoul Philharmonic conducted by Anton Torbeev.

This is the first tour of the Primorsky Stage Ballet in South Korea. This season, the artists have already appeared on stage of the Harbin Grand Theatre (China) with Eldar Aliev’s production of Le Corsaire presented as part of the 2nd China-Russian Festival of Culture and Art. The leading soloists Irina Sapozhnikova and Sergei Umanets also took part in the opening ceremony of the Festival with Pas de deux from Swan Lake by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Another important event in the Company’s touring programme was performances at the Historic Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre last August. The tour programme included ballets from classical heritage - Giselle by Adolphe Adam and neo-classical productions, marking the 135th anniversary since the birth of Igor Stravinsky: Eldar Aliev’s staging of the Firebird and George Balanchine’s Apollo. The Primorsky Stage Ballet performed to full houses and its tour received rapturous reception from audiences and generous praise from leading ballet critics and experts.
