The main premiere of the season — Richard Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Primorsky Stage

14 and 16 September will see the premiere performances of one of the most large–scale Primorsky Stage production of the season – Der fliegende Holländer. The performances will be presented by the Mariinsky Opera soloists and the Mariinsky Opera of the Primorsky Stage soloists, the Mariinsky Chorus of the Primorsky Stage and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage conducted by Pavel Smelkov.

Ian Judge’s production of Der fliegende Holländer made its Vladivostok debut to a great success at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre during the II International Mariinsky Far East Festival. Wagner’s “marine” masterpiece with its vivid musical images and plot centered around the encounter of a Norwegian seaport’s inhabitants with the sinister world of the dead headed by the Holländer had a rapturous reception by both the audience and the press. In the new season, the Primorsky Stage audience will see Ian Judge’s production featuring the Mariinsky Opera soloists with a wide experience of performing Wagner’s music, as well as well–known to the Vladivostok audience: bass Vladimir Feliauer (the Dutchman), soprano Ekaterina Shimanovich (Senta) and tenor Sergei Skorokhodov (Eric). The part of Daland will be performed by the Mariinsky Opera soloist, bass Evgeny Plekhanov.

The operatic playbill will also include a performance for all the family – The Tale of Tsar Saltan by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov based on Alexander Pushkin’s fairy-tale of the same name, Giacomo Puccini’s veristic drama Tosca after the play by Victorien Sardou (September 29) and the iconic French repertoire opera Carmen by Georges Bizet based on the novella by Prosper Mérimée (October 1).
