Boris Eifman’s ballet, Yuri Bashmet’s concert and the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Simon Boccanegra are part the Primorsky Stage August-Septembre repertory playbill

The new season of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre continues with performances by outstanding ensembles and soloists, premieres of grandiose operas, as well as popular repertory opera and ballet performances.

On 5 September, the music-lovers will have a chance to see the premiere of Andrea De Rosa’s stunning production of Giuseppe Verdi’s powerful opera Simon Boccanegra. The dramatic story of the corsaire who becomes the Doge of medieval Genoa will be presented at the Primorsky Stage by leading opera soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre (St Petersburg), including internationally acclaimed singers Vladislav Sulimsky (Simon Boccanegra) and Tatiana Pavlovskaya (Amelia Grimaldi).

On 6 September, the Moscow Soloists Chamber Ensemble led by Yuri Bashmet will give a concert featuring soloists of the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra. The evening programme includes serenades by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Two Nordic Melodies by Edvard Grieg, pieces by Johannes Brahms and Giovanni Sollima.

On 7 September, the soloist of the Tani Momoko Ballet Ayumi Nagahashi will appear as Aurora in one of the most successful ballet productions of the Primorsky Stage’s last season - The Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

In September, in the year of its 40th anniversary, the troupe of the Boris Eifman Theatre will give its first performance in Vladivostok. On September 20, the legendary company will present to the Primorsky audience one of the choreographer’s most celebrated ballets - Eugene Onegin to music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Alexander Sitkovetsky.

Giselle by Adolphe Adam (August 25) and Carmen Suite to music from the famous opera by George Bizet in the original arrangement by Rodion Shchedrin (August 27) will be the first performances which the Primorsky Ballet Company will give after its return from the St Petersburg tour.

The August operatic playbill of the Primorsky Stage features Alain Maratrat’s original interactive production for all the family – The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (August 20), Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca (August 19) staged by Hans-Joachim Frey and the Honoured Artist of Russia Alexei Stepanyuk’s traditional production of one of the most famous Russian operas Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (August 26).

The chamber playbill of the month also presents a concert of instrumental and vocal music to be held on August 27. The Primorsky Stage opera and orchestra soloists will perform works by renowned romantic composers Franz Schubert and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
