A tour by the Mariinsky Theatre and Primorsky Stage to Harbin

From 7 to 10 August artists of the Mariinsky Theatre will be taking part in the II China-Russia Festival of Culture and Arts in Harbin (China).

On 7 August Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra will give a concert at the Harbin Grand Theatre. The musicians will present a programme of works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (Symphony No. 5) and Max Bruch (Violin Concerto No. 1), with Daniel Lozakovitj performing as a soloist. Yesterday, leading soloists of the Primorsky Stage Ballet Company Irina Sapozhnikova and Sergei Umanetc took part in the Festival Opening Ceremony, performing pas-de-deux from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

A series of performances in Harbin will be continued by the Ballet Company of the Primorsky Stage for whom it is going to be their first tour. On 9 and 10 August, the Chinese audience will see Adolphe Adam’s ballet Le Corsaire staged by Eldar Aliev (featuring highlights of the choreography by Marius Petipa). The lead roles will be performed by the Company’s leading soloists Irina Sapozhnikova, Anna Samostrelova, Sergei Umanetc and soloists Arina Nagase, Kanat Nadirbek and Oleksii Skalun. The Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage will be conducted by Anton Torbeev.

Please, be reminded that the Company’s next performance – Giselle will take place at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on August 12 as part of the II International Mariinsky Far East Festival. Then the Company will go on its first tour to St Petersburg, where at the Historic Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre from August 15 to 20 it will be presenting a programme featuring Igor Stravinsky’s ballets The Firebird and Apollo to mark 135 years since the birth of Igor Stravinsky, as well as Adolphe Adam’s ballet Giselle.
