Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under the baton of Valery Gergiev will open the Symphonic Programme of the II International Mariinsky Far East Festival.

On 25 July at 20:00 the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under the baton of Valery Gergiev will give a concert Stravinsky in Vladivostok, which will open the Symphonic Programme of the II International Mariinsky Far East Festival. Solo parts will be performed by young talented virtuosi, who at their young age have already gained impressive international recognition: He Ziyu (violin, China) and Kanon Matsuda (piano, Japan).

The concert Stravinsky in Vladivostok, which will be held on 25 July, is dedicated to the celebration of the 135th birth anniversary of Igor Stravinsky — the composer, who became a sensational pioneer among the great musicians of the 20th century. The Mariinsky Orchestra will perform music of one of the most striking Stravinsky’s ballets — Petrushka.

The concert will be conducted by Valery Gergiev — an unequalled interpreter of the legacy of this outstanding Russian composer. The concert programme will also include other celebrated instrumental compositions: Kanon Matsuda will perform a virtuosic and mischievous Concerto No. 1 by another celebrant — Rodion Shchedrin, He Ziyu will present the famous Violin Concerto No. 5 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The pianist Kanon Matsuda (Japan) already participated in the I International Mariinsky Far East Festival and ‘enthralled the audience with her brilliant performance, vibrant image and authentic Japanese artistry”. Besides, she became the first Japanese pianist who had released a solo album on the most revered European classical music record label — Deutsche Grammophon. In 2017 the company released Kanon Matsuda’s second CD devoted to works by Russian composers. The 18-year old violinist from China He Ziyu has recently become one of the youngest soloists who has been invited to perform with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Since he was 12, the musician has been studying violin in Salzburg — the hometown of the Austrian genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In 2016 He Ziyu was awarded a special prize at the Yehudi Menuhin Young Violinist Competition for the best performance of works by Mozart, proving one more time his exceptional mastery of the great classic’s musical style.
