Concertmaster of the Munich Philharmonic to Perform at the II International Mariinsky Far East Festival in Vladivostok

Concertmaster of the Munich Philharmonic, leader of the Mariinsky Stradivarius Ensemble, violinist and conductor Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici will arrive again in Vladivostok to appear on stage as the conductor and a soloist as part of the Mariinsky Festival on July 20 and 23.

Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici is one of the most influential European musicians, best known for his collaboration with symphony and, especially, chamber orchestras. As a soloist and a conductor, he performs with world class ensembles, including the Trio Celibidache, the Berlin Philharmonic Virtuosos, the Berlin Philharmonic Octet, as well as the Sinfonietta Berlin. Since 2004, Nasturica-Herschcowici has been the conductor and a soloist of the Munich Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, with which he has performed a great number of concerts around the world featuring such celebrated musicians as Hélène Grimaud, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Martin Stadtfeld, Nikolaj Znaider and David Fray.

In 2013, Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici took on the leadership of the Stradivarius Ensemble of the Mariinsky Theatre - a unique group of musicians who play only on precious period string instruments of Amati, Stradivari, Guarneri, Guadanini and Gofriller. An incredible sound and a subtle, stylish rendering of the world’s musical masterpieces made the Ensemble one of St Petersburg audience’s favourites. At the Mariinsky Festival Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici will, for the first time, appear on the podium with the Chamber Ensemble of the Primorsky Stage.

On July 20, the musicians will present a programme featuring concerti by two giants of the Baroque Era: Brandenburg Concerto No 3 and Double Violin Concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach and the legendary Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi. On July 23, the Festival audience will have a chance to hear works by the 19-20th centuries composers, styled as music from past eras. The programme includes Suite of Ancient Airs and Dances for Lute by Ottorino Respighi, Symphony for String Orchestra by Felix Mendelssohn scored in a Mozart’s style, as well as a contemporary response to Vivaldi’s masterpiece - Cuatro estaciones porteñas or The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by the virtuoso founder of the New Tango style - Astor Piazzolla.
