On 26 and 27 May, 2 and 4 June the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will present the final premiere of the season. The classical version of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Sleeping Beauty in choreography by Marius Petipa (revised version by Konstantin Sergeev) is transferred and adapted by the Theatre’s Head Ballet Master Eldar Aliev.
The production is being staged as part of “the Russian Seasons Project” in the run-up to a Bilateral Russia-Japan Year. The work at the Sleeping Beauty is carried out in partnership with the Japanese company Tani Momoko Ballet, which has provided stage sets and costumes, as well as sent its soloists to participate in one of the premiere performances. Ueda Ayano and Hiyama Kazuhisa will dance at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on May 27.
The revised version by Konstantin Sergeev is considered to be one of the most successful productions of The Sleeping Beauty, conveying the peculiarities of style and choreography of Marius Petipa.
