Elena Stikhina Makes Her Role Debut as Lady Macbeth at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

In April, the Primorsky Stage Opera soloist Elena Stikhina will perform twice for the Far East audience. The singer will appear as a Violetta Valery in La traviata (14 April) and will make her debut in the principal female role in Verdi’s Macbeth (16 April)..

The singer has long become a favourite with the Far East audience long time ago and has been successfully earning international recognition after her victories at the prestigious vocal competitions Competizione dell' Opera and Operalia. At present, Elena Stikhina is a desirable guest at the best European music theatres. In February, 2017, she successfully debuted on stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, where she performed the leading part in the premiere of Salome by Richard Strauss. And as soon as on March 22, Elena appeared as Lisa in Alexei Stepanyuk’s production of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera The Queen of Spades at the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

On 14 April, Elena Stikhina will sing the part of one of the most popular Verdi’s characters - Violetta, which happens to be one of the soloist’s favourite parts as well. The image of a beautiful girl, a flippant Queen of Parisian salons, who undergoes a profound transformation under the influence of a deep and sincere feeling, provides performers with opportunities to showcase their rich palette of vocal and artistic colours. The magnificent performance with impressive sets and period costumes was staged in 2002 for Anna Netrebko and has been brought over to Vladivostok from the Main Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.

On 16 April, Elena Stikhina will debut in one of the most challenging and, at the same time, most interesting parts in the soprano repertoire - the leading female role in the opera Macbeth. This Shakespearean character implies unparalleled intensity of emotions. Verdi left detailed instruction as to how this part should be performed, however soloists always try to find their own answer to the question: what is the driving force behind the heroine’s criminal intent? The transfer of Macbeth staged by the world-renowned Scottish choreographer David McVicar to the Primorsky Stage took place in January, 2017.
