On 2 and 4 May, as a part of the Symphony Programme of the 16th Moscow Easter Festival, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will host concerts starring one of the most celebrated Korean pianists, winner of many prestigious musical competitions, Seng Jin Cho. The gifted musician will present a solo programme, as well as will perform with the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage.

At the age of 14, Son Jin Cho – a child prodigy – received his first award at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (2011). In 2009, he won the 1st prize at the 7th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, becoming the first Asian – and the youngest ever – winner of this major Japanese award. Among other musician’s achievements are the third prize at the 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the First Prize and the Gold Medal at the coveted 17th International Chopin Piano Competition (2015) in Warsaw, held once in five years..

Today, the 22-year old musician performs in major concert venues all over the world and collaborates with the foremost orchestras and conductors. Last June, Seong Jin Cho together with the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage under Valery Gergiev played at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre at the opening of the First International Mariinsky Far East Festival. The concert featuring the pianist was broadcast by the Cultura Channel.

In his solo concert on May 2, the pianist will present pieces by the French impressionist composer Claude Debussy and ones of the most challenging and virtuoso works by Frederic Chopin – the four Ballads for solo piano. On May 4, Seong Jin Cho and the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage under the Singaporean conductor Darrell Ang will perform Beethoven’s Piano concerto No. 3.
