The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre Actively Enriches its Repertoire Playbill

The April Playbill of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre presents the fourth premiere of this year - the opera Rigoletto by G. Verdi. The upcoming events also feature performances by Y. Bashmet and his Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Elena Stikhina’s debut in G. Verdi’s Macbeth and two concerts given by one of the most distinctive Korean pianists Seong Jin Cho.

The month’s series of events will be opened by a concert of Yuri Bashmet and the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra. The renowned violist will give his first ever performance at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on 11 April. On the same day, he will give a master class for music students.

Elena Stikhina will appear at the Primorsky Stage twice. At the beginning of February the singer successfully debuted in St Petersburg, where she performed the part of Salome in the opera of the same name by Richard Strauss together with soloists and the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre conducted by Valery Gergiev. In April, Elena Stikhina is to return to Vladivostok, where she will perform the leading part in Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata (14 April) and Macbeth (16 April). It will be the first time that the Primorsky Stage soloist performs the part of Lady Macbeth - one of the most interesting roles in the world operatic repertoire.

The premiere of the month is G. Verdi’s Rigoletto. On 21 and 23 April, Vladivostok will have a chance to see Irkin Gabitov’s production, so much loved by the St Petersburg’s audience.

The April repertoire of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre also includes performances Eugene Onegin (7 April), Carmen (9 April), Christmas Eve (29 April) and The Magic Flute (1 May). The ballet playbill presents the March premieres - George Balanchine’s one-act ballets Apollo, The Prodigal Son and Scotch Symphony (6 April), Le Corsaire (8 April), a ballet evening The Fire Bird (13 April), Giselle (15 and 28 April), Swan Lake (22 April) and Carmen Suite (30 April).

The above Primorsky Stage upcoming events will be followed by concerts featuring one of the most distinctive musicians of his generation, South Korean pianist Seong Jin Cho. On May 2, he will give a solo concert and on 4 May will perform with the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage directed by the Philippine conductor Darrell Ang. Seong Jin Cho attracted the world’s attention at a number of prestigious musical competitions, including the XIV Tchaikovsky International Competition. Critics invariably describe his style of performance as” magical”, “bright” and “memorable’. The pianist collaborates with the Mariinsky Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage, the Munich Philharmonic, the Russian National Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and many other ensembles. Seong Jin Cho made his debut at the Primorsky Stage during the opening of the First International Mariinsky Far East Festival at the personal invitation of Valery Gergiev.
