On July 25 in the Teatro Degollado (Guadalajara, Mexico), Placido Domingo announced the winners of the 2016 edition of the Operalia Competition. Soloist of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, Elena Stikhina was awarded two distinctions: the Audience Prize, and the Culturarte Prize.

Operalia, The World Opera Competition, was founded in 1993 by the legendary singer Placido Domingo. Today, it is considered one of the world's most prestigious vocal competitions. The competition is held in a different location every year: past competitions have taken place in Paris, Mexico City, Madrid, Bordeaux, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Beijing, Verona, and London. Past prize winners of Operalia have included: Ana Maria Martinez, Inva Mula, Joyce DiDonato, Roland Villazon, Stephane Degout, Nina Stemme, Sonya Yoncheva, Jose Cura, Olga Peretyatko, Aida Garifullina, and others.

Elena Stikhina is a recipient of the Yamaha Scholarship Award and is a prize-winner of multiple national and international competitions, including Concours Flame (Paris, France) and the Competizione dell'Opera (Linz, Austria). She has also participated in international festivals such as the Beethovenfest (Bonn, Germany) and Internationale OpernWerkstatt (Sigriswil, Switzerland).

The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre Announces its Playbill until the End of the Season
The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is presenting its repertoire until the end of the season. The long-awaited premiere of Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet will be the highlight of the playbill. The programme will also contain “The Holidays at the Mariinsky” project, the gala opening of the III Far East Easter Festival, concerts to commemorate the Victory Day, performances by students of the Primorsky Central Music School of the Academy of Arts, grand operas and gems of the classical ballet repertoire, performances for children, and chamber concerts

The Music of Light and Love: Welcoming Spring Together with the Primorsky Stage
The onset of spring at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will come as a true hymn to awakening, light, and love. From March 5 to 9, 2026, the audiences will be able to enjoy four opera performances of affection and beauty, a festive Opera Gala dedicated to the International Women’s Day, a special programme for young audiences, and a unique opportunity to peek behind the scenes of the Theatre. All the events of these days will be permeated with a single concept, to lift the spirits of the audience and to welcome spring immersed in glorious music
