On July 25 in the Teatro Degollado (Guadalajara, Mexico), Placido Domingo announced the winners of the 2016 edition of the Operalia Competition. Soloist of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre, Elena Stikhina was awarded two distinctions: the Audience Prize, and the Culturarte Prize.
Operalia, The World Opera Competition, was founded in 1993 by the legendary singer Placido Domingo. Today, it is considered one of the world's most prestigious vocal competitions. The competition is held in a different location every year: past competitions have taken place in Paris, Mexico City, Madrid, Bordeaux, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Beijing, Verona, and London. Past prize winners of Operalia have included: Ana Maria Martinez, Inva Mula, Joyce DiDonato, Roland Villazon, Stephane Degout, Nina Stemme, Sonya Yoncheva, Jose Cura, Olga Peretyatko, Aida Garifullina, and others.
Elena Stikhina is a recipient of the Yamaha Scholarship Award and is a prize-winner of multiple national and international competitions, including Concours Flame (Paris, France) and the Competizione dell'Opera (Linz, Austria). She has also participated in international festivals such as the Beethovenfest (Bonn, Germany) and Internationale OpernWerkstatt (Sigriswil, Switzerland).
