Ph.D. in Art History, Stage Director, Artistic Director of the Moscow DO Theatre, Stage Director of the Moscow Helikon Opera Theatre, Stage Director of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Singing Centre, a teacher of acting and stage-directing of the Music Theatre Faculty of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS), a member of the RF Union of Theatre Workers. In 2006 he became a vocal coach and an actor of the Roman Viktyuk’s Theatre.
In 2006, Starodubtsev graduated from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts - GITIS (workshop of the People’s Artist of Russia, professor Dmitry Bertman) where he had trained as a theatre actor. In 2009, he completed a postgraduate course at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) (faculty of music theatre, department of stage directing and acting in music theatre). He is author of more than 30 productions at music and drama theatres of Vladivostok, Moscow, St Petersburg, Novosibirsk. Among them are The Playing Person by Chechetko (Helikon Opera); Marriage and Other Horrors, marking 200 years since the birth of Gogol (Vishnevskaya Centre of Opera Singing); Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Shostakovich (The M. Rostropovich Festival); I am Another Tree to music by Tariverdiev (DO Theatre); Offenbach’ operetta La vie parisienne, Edmond Rostand’s Der bestrafte Wüstling and Cyrano de Bergerac (The Gorky Primorsky Drama Theatre), Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Mikhailovsky Theatre); Stravinsky’s Mavra (The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre).
As a music consultant and director of musical scenes he took part in the production of such Russian films as: Dostoyevsky (Director: V. Hotinenko), Kuprin. Duel. (Director - A. Malyukov), Grigory Rasputin (A. Malyukov). Organized and staged international art projects in Japan, India, Spain, Estonia.
Since 2017 he has been Theatre Director of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT). He is author of lectures and educational projects: Open Dialogues, Reading Opera, The Unknown Tchaikovsky, The Censored Verdi. Recipient of the 2017 Paradis Theatre Award for the artistic concept and stage-directing of the opera Un ballo in maschera. The production staged by Vyacheslav Starodubtsev at the NOVAT Theatre include: the operatic quest Turandot (2016), the fashion opera Aida by G. Verdi (2016), the opera The Queen of Spades. The Game. by P. Tchaikovsky (2016), the operatic thriller Un ballo in maschera by G. Verdi (2017), the opera tasting L'elisir d'amore by Donizetti (2017), The World Opera in Novosibirsk (2017), Christmas Oratorio by Ilarion Alfee (2018), Mozart and Salieri by Rimsky-Korsakov (2018).
