Julia Novikova is a multiple prize winner and a laureate of various international competitions, including the 1st Prize and the Audience Award at the International Operalia Competition (Budapest, 2009).
Julia was born in St Petersburg. She was a member and a soloist of The St Petersburg Radio and Television Choir directed by S.F. Gribkov.
In 2006, she graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg Conservatory (prof. O.D. Kondina). While being a student, she performed the parts of Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Serpina (La serva padrona), Marfa (The Tsar’s Bride) and Violetta (La traviata).
In 2006 she made her professional stage debut with the Mariinsky theatre, performing Flora in Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw (Conductors – Valery Gergiev and Pavel Smelkov).
Julia’s first permanent engagement was with the Musiktheater Dortmund while she was still a student of the Conservatory. It was followed by her performances at opera theatres in Frankfurt and Bonn, Komische Oper Berlin, Vienna, Berlin and Humburg State Operas, opera theatres in Washington, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Monte Carlo, the Theatre Capitole du Toulouse, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and the Theatre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.
Julia Novikova gained international recognition in 2010 after her great success as Gilda in Marco Bellocchio’s television production of Rigoletto, which was filmed in the original locations and transmitted live to 148 countries. The opera was conducted by Zubin Mehta and the part of Rigoletto was performed by Placido Domingo.
In 2011 Julia was highly acclaimed for the title role in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol at the Quebec Opera Festival and at the Salzburg Festival.
