Irina Churilova

  • Prize-winner at the Valeria Barsova Vocalists’ Competition (Sochi, 2008 1st prize)

In 2009 Irina Churilova graduated from the Novosibirsk State Glinka Conservatoire (class of Zinaida Didenko). Has taken part in master-classes given by Diane Zola and Montserrat Caballé and trained under Enza Ferrari.

From 2008 to 2018 was a soloist at the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Made her Mariinsky Theatre debut in 2013, appearing as Marguerite in the premiere of a new production of Faust. Since then she has regularly appeared in St Petersburg. Has sung in Mariinsky Theatre premieres of the operas The Queen of Spades (2015), Simon Boccanegra (2016) and I vespri siciliani (2017). For the role of Liza in The Queen of Spades she received a nomination for Russia's Golden Mask theatre prize.

Joined the Mariinsky Opera Company in 2018.

Irina Churilova has taken part in on-tour performances of the Mariinsky company conducted by Valery Gergiev in Baden-Baden (The Queen of Spades), Tokyo (Don Carlo, The Queen of Spades), Shanghai (The Queen of Spades), Rome (Iolanta), Hamburg (Iolanta), Munich (Iolanta), Berlin (Iolanta), Lucerne (Iolanta), Budapest (Iolanta), Paris (Iolanta), and Pamplona (Mahler’s Symphony No. 2).

In 2018 she appeared as a soloist in the world premiere of a new production of the Sofia Gubaidulina’s oratorio Über Liebe und Hass conducted by Valery Gergiev in Rotterdam.

As a guest soloist she also performs at the Bolshoi Theatre. In 2012 she was invited by Montserrat Caballé to take part in her anniversary concert at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

In the 2017-18 season Irina Churilova made her debuts as Liza (The Queen of Spades) at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

In the 2018-19 season she performed the title part in Norma staged by Francesca Zambello at the Municipal Theatre of Santiago and appeared as Amelia (Un ballo in maschera) at the Teatro Regio di Parma and Grand Théâtre de Genève.

The engagements of the 2020-21 season include the title part in La Gioconda by Amilcare Ponchielli in Deutsche Oper Berlin.
