Ran Matsumoto was born in the Saitama Prefecture. She has graduated from the music department of the Toho Gakuen School of Music. She was trained with the famous violinist Tsugio Tokunaga.
In 1998 she appeared in Vladivostok within the framework of Japanese-Russian cultural exchange. In 2004 her performance mastership was highly appreciated at the 33rd debutant contest organized by the Japan International League of Artists (JILA). The violinist won a prize for meritorious and the special prize of the judges and performed at the concert of the winners. Then she became First Prize winner at the 6th Osaka International Music Competition where she won the Osaka Mayor prize. In 2004, during her European traineeship, she took part in the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival with famous guest conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Bernard Haitink and Christoph Eschenbach. Moreover, Ran Matsumoto is a permanent participant of the Miyazaki Music Competition.
The violinist successfully cooperates with Inoue Akira, a music producer, the Yoshida Brothers, performers of the style of Tsugaru-jamisen, Somegoro Ichikawa, a Kabuki actor, Miki Imai, a singer, and Toho Sinki, a Korean duet. Moreover, she composes for TV programs.
On April 27, 2016 Matsumoto’s album Romance was released.
