Lu Shao is an associate professor and a head of the Voice and Opera Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
Graduating from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2000, Shao Lu came down to teaching music there. Subsequently he received a part of his education in Germany, at the Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien Hannover where he was a student of Paul Weigold, a distinguished conductor, and Justus Zeyen, a famous repetiteur and accompanist.
From 2000 to 2015 Shao Lu was a head of the opera division of Shanghai International Opera Master Class, a project of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and often worked together with brilliant musicians such as Juan Pons, John Wustman, Paul Weigold, Marco Boemi, Burkhard Kehring, and Martin Katz.
Lu Shao took part in arrangement of many operas for the lyric stage within or outside China. From 2006 to 2009 he was a music director of Thus Do They All, or The School for Lovers opera buffa and Carmen opera at CIRC, France. In 2013 he was an art director of the Westminster Summer Choral Festival. In 2014 Shao Lu worked as a music director of Spring Waters, the first original Chinese opera. In 2016 he appeared together with basso baritone Shenyang in Exile, a music staging based on Winterreise by Schubert. Besides, he fruitfully cooperates with many famous Chinese opera singers such as Liao Changyong, Huang Yin, Yang Huang, and Li Xui-Ying.
Lu Shao appeared as an accompanist at international competitions including the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in 2007-2012 and the Montréal International Musical Competition in 2009-2010.
Lu Shao also collects and researches old classic records. He authored the book Endless History of Music in which he collected descriptions of hundreds of historic classic records. The work was accorded wide recognition and became a table-top book for conservatory students and music amateurs.
