Dmitry Lupachev was born in St Petersburg.
Studied clarinet at the Specialized Music High School of the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of N.N. Kiryukhin), then entered the St Petersburg Conservatory, where he also continued his education by completing postgraduate studies (class of Prof. A.V. Kazakov). Attended master-classes by Sabine Meyer, Ralph Manno, Roman Guyot, Philippe Cuper, Nicolas Baldeуrou, Stanley Drucker.
Winner of the 2nd International Mravinsky Youth Competition (the 2nd prize, St Petersburg, 1998), the 4th International Mravinsky Youth Competition (the 1st prize, 2003), the Gartow Stiftung Chamber Ensembles Competitions (the 2nd prize, 2004), the M. Yudina Chamber Ensembles Competition (the 3rd prize, 2006), the Rimsky-Korsakov Competition, a recipient of the Hope of Russia prize.
Performed as a soloist of the orchestras of the St Petersburg Camerata (the State Hermitage Orchestra), the Glinka St Petersburg State Capella, the St Petersburg Chamber Opera, as well as with the soloists ensemble of the St Petersburg Philharmonic.
Has toured with the National Youth Orchestra of Russia.
From 2008 — the clarinet section leader of the symphony orchestra of the St Petersburg Chamber Opera.
Since 2016 — has been the clarinet section leader of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.
